Nigeria.

16

QUIET STORM was written and directed by Obi Emelonye (Echoes
of War, The London Successor and Lucky Joe) and stars
Nollywood’s heavyweight Zack Orji. It was co-produced by
BEN TV, London.
BACKGROUND
Over the past couple of years, Catholic Priests, especially
those in eastern Nigeria, have fallen easy prey to armed
robbers who commit all sorts of atrocities during the course
of their operations.
For an emotive Christian congregation that holds priests in
very high veneration, these nefarious activities have
emasculated their faith and ‘demystified the reverence of
the priesthood’.
This is especially so when there are no visible retribution
for the perpetrators of these sacrilegious acts.
The true stories upon which QUIET STORM was based galvanised
the Christian faith in the villages where they occurred.
However, their impact on evangelism was limited and
short-lived.
The idea behind producing QUIET STORM is to replicate this
galvanising effect throughout Nigeria and prolong its
impact.
SYNOPSIS
Father BEN is a Catholic priest who incurs the wrath of his
host village (Umuagu) for burning down their ancient shrine.
But things take a desperate turn when different calamities
start befalling the community. Pushed to the wall, Father
BEN makes an emotional pronouncement and becomes the
laughing stock of the village.
However, after a long time and with Father BEN on the brink
of his own faith, something unexpected starts to happen in
Umuagu that will, literally, take the entire village by
storm.

NFVCB TO PRESENT LICENSES TO
DISTRIBUTORS AND EXHIBITORS
The National Film and Video
Censors Board will on the 5th of December 2008, in Lagos
at Planet One Restaurant Maryland, issue licenses to
distributors and exhibitors in a ceremony to be presided
by the Hon Minister of Information and communications Mr
John Odey.
The event is the first of its kind in the history of
film and movie industry in Nigeria. It is a culmination
of two years of hard work by the management of the
National Film and Video Censors Board. The process which
included seminars, presentations, town hall meetings and
roadshows with stakeholders is now complete with the
selection of 36 national distributors and exhibitors and
80 regional distributors and exhibitors.
The nfvcb in its effort to reform the movie industry in
Nigeria initiated the distribution framework as a
platform to build an industry of strategic national
importance. The drive to build a sustainable structure
and stimulate growth in the film and movie sector of the
economy is the catalyst for this framework.
The film industry is a very big industry and the
Nigerian film industry has a global promise but first
the situation at home has to put on a sound footing to
be able to play a global role. We are therefore at the
verge of accomplishing the building of an industry of
both local and international repute.
Presently, the Nigerian movie industry has risen to the
position of the third largest in the world after
Hollywood and Bollyhood .
The event is expected to draw participation from the
legislature, Government agencies under the Ministry of
Information, Corporate Organizations as well as members
of the public and the press.
Part of the programme of event for the presentation
ceremony is A Masterclass on FILM AND MEDIA FINANCING.
Three resource persons led by Parminder Vir OBE formerly
of the British Film Council, Timothy Johnson a partner
at SJ Berwin and Sanjay Salil Managing Director,
Mediaguru are all going to be part of the grand
ceremony. The Masterclass will also feature 30 Minutes
Video Conferencing with Karan Ahluwalia, Senior Vice
President of YES Bank of India.
The Hon Minister is expected to present the licenses
personally as a way of encouragement and assurance of
government support and interest in the sustainable
growth of the industry.
