TRUST (EXCEL FOR
CHARITY) POETRY COMPETITION 2009
This poetry
competition is in aid of The Psychiatry Research Trust
which was formed in 1982 with the sole aim of raising funds
for research into mental illness and brain disease. The aim of this competition is to give
writers from all over the world a chance to pitch their
skills against those of their peers with the aim of
achieving literary glory, but in doing so, they also
help The Psychiatry Research Trust financially.
Competition Information
Subject: Poems may be
on any subject.
Length: Maximum 40
lines per poem
Entry Fees: £3.00 per
poem or £12.00 for 5 poems
(The Psychiatry Research Trust
will receive one third of the net entry fees)
First Prize: £150.00
Second Prize: £75.00
Third Prize: £35.00
Highly Commended Entries:
Subject to the quality of entries, if the judge finds 48 to
64 poems of high enough quality, then we shall publish them
as an anthology edited by Gerald England and Nnorom
Azuonye
(Editor of Sentinel Literary Quarterly and author of Letter
to God and Other Poems, and The Bridge Selection: Poems for
the Road. Azuonye is also Director of Operations and
Creative Services, Eastern
Light EPM International.)

England is also a holder of the Ted Slade Award

How to Enter

Poems must be in English
language and typed.

Author’s name and address
MUST NOT appear on the page.

Write your name and
address on a sheet of paper and put the paper in a
sealed envelope and write "PSYCHRESTRUST 2009" followed
by the TITLE(S) of your poem(s) on the back of the
envelope.

envelope with your name inside, and your entry fee to:

4. You will receive an
acknowledgement of receipt of poems within 48 hours.
Terms & Conditions: You
may enter as many poems as you want. The decision of the
judge is final, and no communication will be entered into.
For transparency, Eastern Light makes it clear that we shall
retain what is left from the entry fees after a third has
been donated to the charity, the prize money and
adjudication fees paid, to cover administration and
promotional costs. In the event that there are too few
entries to pay the prize money from the entry fees, we will
forgo our share of the money and may if necessary contribute
our own funds to ensure the prize money is guaranteed.
*Postal entries must be
Postmarked by 10th October 2009 and must be received by 13th
October 2009.
**Online entries must be
received by midnight 10th October, 2009.
